PBC3 6 Sept | No Name’s brilliant branding, PodCast Crew, #elxn43 polling.

September 6, 2019

This week on PBC3, we’re…
🤣 @ No Name’s brilliant branding
šŸ‘‚šŸ½ @ PodCast Crew
🚨 @ #elxn43 polling

i am a brand. follow me.

We are hella here for the homerun social debut of the world’s blandest brand: No Name. It’s east to adore the low-key weirdness of the Canadian brand’s bizarre Twitter posts, particularly their:

  • pared-down copy (4-5 words tops!)
  • hilarious upselling (six bean blend ā€œcontains numerous beansā€)
  • iconic design (black Helvetica, yellow background for the forever win)

We honestly can’t tell if it’s a send-up of social media marketing or a serious attempt to capture No Name’s sparse personality. Frankly, we don’t care. It works, and we mashed the follow button instantly.

The Message breaks down why it’s brilliant branding here…

But you should really just see for yourself on Twitter.

Location, location, location

We don’t mean to brag (alright, that’s a bald-faced lie – we totally mean to brag), but our crew have pretty dope side hustles. All-time director, longtime pal, and part-time PBer Scooter Corkle’s podcast, PodCast Crew, is just one among many. Whether you’re looking to break into the film industry or just a curious set voyeur, PodCast Crew gives you an in-depth look at life below the line. Weekly guests discuss the highs, lows, and how-tos of their roles in film production. This week’s episode features heavy hitter location managers Rino Pace and Nicole Chartrand.

Out: Pool party. In: Poll party.

September is here, and while fall fanatics are sating their pumpkin spice addiction, we’re mainlining a different kind of drug: polls. Along with hacks, wonks, activists, journalists, campaigners, and lobbyists, we’re waiting on writ drop and chasing down the latest election news.

Nobody said gobbling a steady diet of polls, punditry, and political ads was healthy, but we’re hooked. And at the risk of sounding trite, Oct 21 is a big vote – regardless of who wins or loses on Canadian soil, the climate crisis is at stake for governments across the world. It’s reason enough to rubberneck which parties stan the planet in #elxn43.

Eight weeks out, Maclean’s breaks down 338Canada’s latest polling news.

The PBC3 is our take on the week’s happenings and – to be honest – whatever we think is cool.
